Dear Father Justin,
You captured an interesting collection of different architectural styles. It is a great picture.
What types of roofing was used prior to the corrugated metal roofs?
Has St Catherine’s reopened to pilgrims and if so to what extent?
With Best Regards,
Richard Saloom
The original roofing of the basilica was lead. The only place this survives is over the apse with the apse mosaic. Everything at the monastery is open again, except for the services. We hope that these also can be open for pilgrims in the near future.
