In the high mountains, the first light of day is a pink coloured glow on the eastern horizon. I took this photo from above the Chapel of Saint Anne, the morning I left to return to the monastery.

Bless, Father! I read in one of your posts that the Typikon in St Catherine’s follows the general rule of coenobium, but is influenced by the modes of life proper to the early solitaries. How is the St Catherine’s Typikon different?
Do some of your monks live in the outlying cells around the monastery?

The cycle of services and the structure of the day is that of a coenobium. But when responsibilities allow, it is wonderful to climb up to some remote kelli and spend three days. The silence is profound. It is as if we return to the Sinai of a thousand years ago.
