I imagine that Father Daniel would have lived a life not very different from the early Christian hermits.
Do many, if any of the monks still live a similar lifestyle?

Father Hesychios spends weekdays at Tarfa, the site of an ancient hermitage, half an hour by car from the monastery. He returns to the monastery for Saturday and Sunday. The Elder Paisios also spent time at this ancient hermitage. Others spend one or several days at various sites closer to the monastery. They experience the life of solitude, while also maintaining their responsibilities in the monastery.
