Cat on Patrol

While I was at the chapel of the Prophet Elijah, a cat came by. A little bird on the roof of the chapel sounded the alarm for all the other birds that the cat was here. After basking in the warm sand for a while, the cat left to continue its patrol of the area. Perhaps today it would find a dove with it guard down for just a moment. How wonderful that would be.

    Dear Father Justin,

Is this cat likely to be a feral domestic cat or an African Wildcat, wildcat/feral cross?
No matter what her lineage, I bet she would be a a superb mouser!

    With best regards,

    Richard

There is a Bedouin stand along the path to the summit of Mount Sinai that has tea and coffee and juice and cookies for those making the ascent, or for those who want to rest on the way down. I suspect the cat lives there, and survives on handouts from the tourists and pilgrims. But it comes to the basin of the Prophet Elijah to patrol a wider area.

Once again, looking at the cat, it is really on patrol. And what’s nice about your photograph, dear Father Justin, is that it catches this sense of motion. The cat is on the move and restless.

    Dear Father Justin,
This is a very interesting photograph!
At first glance it looks like a wildcat, but when I see her face I recognise that it is a very calm tender cat.
Thank you very much for this beautiful photograph.
