In the middle of the day, the sun’s rays cast a raking light across the wall outside the Chapel of the Twelve Apostles, highlighting the brushstrokes of whitewash, with earlier layers showing through in patches.

Father Justin,
During the upkeep of buildings like this, is it possible or economical to maintain traditional techniques and materials? Would this chapel be repainted with modern latex or oil paints?
I am eager to photograph the oldest parts of the monastery, which have a beautiful patina that only comes with time. I would hope that repairs can be minimal, using traditional techniques and materials, but sometimes that is not practical.
In any case, it is very interesting !!
Can you post some pictures of the Burning Bush?
Father, bless,
Your photos are very beautiful, I am hoping to be able to visit you in a few weeks time. Is it safe to travel to the monastery from Sharm el Sheikh at the moment? I am an Orthodox Christian from London, is it possible to come to liturgy on Sundays? Nicola
It is safe, and traveling from Sharm el Sheikh is the easiest way. From there, it is a 2 1/2 hour drive. The monastery can arrange for a car and driver to meet you if you let us know the exact time of your arrival. You would be welcome to join us for the Liturgy.
