A post is connected to a brace with a dovetailed tenon. The brace has been cut on both sides with a reverse ogee profile. Everything is then held in place with hand forged nails. This is Sinai woodworking from many years ago.

A piece of Art !
Father Justin, Where during the initial construction did the wood come from? Is the exterior wood likely to remain intact for generations due to the climate? Thank you, Richard
The sixth century wooden beams in the basilica, and the massive western door, are made of cedar, and some say it is Cedar of Lebanon. In the more humble constructions, one sees the use of branches and even palm trunks, which are not wood, but fibre. Even so, these constructions can last for many years, because of the very dry climate.
