Dear Father Justin,
Thanks you very much!
I have never seen this icon before …
It is so unique, very interesting. Would you please be kind enough to explain what this icon means? I am thankful to you for all the divine treasures you are sharing with us.
During the day, light from the windows shines on the iconostasion from behind and from each side. The small icon over the central gates is easily overlooked amidst the overwhelming complexity that surrounds it. A photograph taken at the beginning of the morning services, when the church is still dark, reveals the intricate carving of the iconostasion, which was painted with vermillion before the gold leaf was applied. The beautiful icon with its ornate metal frame and halo depicts the direct imprint of the face of Christ, the prototype of all icons.
Thank you very much father Justin.
The history of the Mandylion Icon “Not Made by Hands” was something I did not know…
